Lettuce Pictures

Above is the first batch of lettuce placed into the system. They were actually
kept in my basement system for 2 weeks because It
was too cold outside. I started this lettuce in March.

One of the first heads of lettuce removed from the system. This is a variety of romaine
purchased from Seeds of Change. It's name is Craquante
D'Avignon and is certified organic.

This is a picture of the system with almost all the holes filled with lettuce. I
need to find more people in the neighborhood to eat lettuce. I was averaging
almost 100 heads a month. 20-30 were wasted because they would bolt before I
could find a home.

On the left is arugula growing. I cut out additional holes in the top of the NFT
chamber. 17 arugula plants are growing in a 4 foot channel. You can only do this
for about 70 days from seed because the channel will totally fill with roots and
the system starts to leak. The lettuce to the right was Red Oak and Radicchio
which was not a good thing to grow.

Another picture from later in the year. As you can see a lot of the lettuce was
bolting because of the heat. I ended up placing screen above the plants to cut
down on the sun. It helped after the batch of lettuce bolted due to the light
change. In the back on the ground you can see the beginning of my NFT chamber I
was building for the tomatoes.

Here is some of my price chemical free spinach. I had a heck of a time starting
the plants, but once they started, they grew without a hitch. This is right
before the plant starts to bolt.
