Joe's Tomato Greenhouse Pictures and Design



Part of the original pile of lumber needed to create the structure. This all fit in a 1990 Honda Civic SI Hatchback. I will never do that again.

The 2x6 pieces were used for the NFT chambers.

Specifications:

  • 20 feet long, 9 feet high not including the roof, and 7 feet wide.
  • Build over a long period of time
  • 240 gallon tank was constructed
  • 75 lbs of Fertilizer was consumed over the course of the summer
  • At the peak, 80 gallons of water a day was used by the plants


Growing Facts:

  • Over 500 pounds of tomatoes were harvested of which 50 pounds were green at the end
  • 20-40 pounds of peppers were harvested
  • Over 75 pounds of tomatoes were lost due to bad design, wind, improper storage, or birds
  • EC was kept at 1300-1500 ppm
  • PH was kept at 5.8-6.5
  • Tank was dumped every 2 weeks in August when BER was discovered
  • Before September the tank was dumped only once a month
  • Fertilizer was the HydroGro mix and Calcium Nitrate from CropKing
  • System was turned off and all tomatoes removed on 10/7/2001 due to frost.
